Portugal

This will be the last hurrah for one of the greatest of all time – Cristiano Ronaldo. He will dearly love to put this trophy in the cabinet and then he will be considered in the top four of all time. The players to watch are Ronaldo (Manchester United of England), Bruno Fernandes (Manchester United of England), Joao Cancelo (Manchester City of England).

Uruguay

In Luis Suarez, they have one of the best but he will need the others to step up, especially the defence if they are to make it out. Players to keep an eye on are Darwin Nunez (Liverpool of England), Luis Suarez (Nacional of Uruguay), Diego Godin (Velez Sarsfield ofArgentina).

  • Current FIFA world ranking: No. 13 (August, 2022)
  • Regional ranking: 3rd (CONMEBOL)

Ghana

They are in a tough group but they do have the fortitude to advance. It will take a lot of good play and they cannot afford to slip up at all. The game with South Korea will determine this group. They can depend on: Thomas Partey (Arsenal / England), Mohammed Kudus (Ajax / Netherlands), Jordan Ayew (Crystal Palace / England)

  • Current FIFA world ranking: No. 60 (August, 2022)
  • Regional ranking: 11th (CAF)
  • World Cup titles: —
  • World Cup appearances – 4
  • Qualified- CAF Third Round winners: (1-1 vs. Nigeria, Ghana won on away goals)
  • Head Coach- Otto Addo (Germany) South Korea

This team can be the giant killer of this World Cup. In the past, they have suffered from some dubious refereeing at past tournaments. If the play is fair then they will be more than a handful. In the following players they have all the talent necessary: Son Heung-min (Tottenham of England), Hwang Hee-chan (Wolves of England), Kim Min-jae (Napoli of Italy). Unlike past teams they have players in the top leagues of Europe. They are fit and strong as well as very organized.

  • Current FIFA world ranking: No. 28 (August, 2022)
  • Regional ranking: 3rd (AFC)
  • World Cup titles: —
  • World Cup appearances – 10
  • Qualified- Third Round AFC Group A runners-up 7W-L1-D2
  • Head Coach-Paulo Bento (Portugal)

This is a very hard prediction- my sense tells me Portugal and Uruguay but my gut is saying Uruguay and South Korea.
