UNITED National Congress (UNC) local government councillor for Kelly Village/Warrenville Samuel Sankar publicly attended a People’s National Movement political meeting on Tuesday night.
The meeting was held at Signature Hall in Chaguanas and featured Prime Minister and PNM political leader Dr Keith Rowley as the feature speaker.
His presence was announced by PNM Senator Renuka Sangramsingh who chaired the meeting.
The announcement was met with loud cheers and applause from red party supporters.
Speaking to AZP News on Wednesday, Sankar said however, his attendance was not meant to be interpreted in a political way and that he went to speak with Dr Rowley on matters concerning his district.
He did say that he will be making an official statement later on Wednesday.
Sankar on August 9 was the lone attendee at a local government consultation that was organised by the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government.
Members of all 14 municipal corporations were invited including the Opposition. However, UNC political leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar issued a memo informing UNC members not to attend.
Sankar had indicated that he received the memo late and that he did not have a problem attending the meeting.
