ELEVEN-year-old Rachel Bhagwandeen, who was mauled to death by a mixed-breed dog on Thursday, died a hero.
While watching television around 11 am at a relative house on Solomon Street in Vistabella, the mixed American Bulldog named Buddy entered the house and Rachel told her nine-year-old brother to run while the dog followed her into the bedroom.
It attacked her and her mother Seema could not get her away from the dog who did not want to let her go from its grip.
Rachel, who was to write the Secondary Entrance Examination next year, died at the scene with wounds to the side of her neck and face.
Her mother told the media that the dog did not want to let go of her child and was shaking her up.
Rachel lives in Freeport but went to her relative home to wait for her other brother who took lessons in San Fernando. It was a usual occurrence. The dog, owned by a relative, was described as very aggressive and no one could have said how it came out of its enclosed area.
