ARCHBISHOP Santiago de Wit Guzmán is the new Apostolic Nuncio to Trinidad and Tobago along with other Caribbean Countries.
The 57-year-old Archbishop was appointed by Pope Francis on July 30 as the Roman Catholic Church’s diplomatic consultant.
Ordained in Valencia, Spain, Archbishop Guzmán will serve T&T, Antigua and Barbuda, Belize, Grenada, the Cooperative Republic of Guyana, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, Suriname, and Apostolic Delegate to the Antilles.
He replaces Nigerian Fortunatus Nwachukwu who now has a diplomatic post at the Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland in 2021.
Archbishop Guzmán will reside at the Vatican’s diplomatic residence in Port of Spain.
The Spanish Prelate was also the present Titular Archbishop of Gabala and was recently the apostolic nuncio in the Central African Republic and Chad.
In the past,he has represented the Roman Catholic Church in the Netherlands, Paraguay, Egypt and the Democratic of Congo.
