DEALING with violence in schools cannot be made a political matter.
This is the view of Youth Chairman of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) David Welch in a release on Wednesday.
He said, “The PEP’s Youth Arm has taken note of the increase in violence in schools and has noted the dealing with this increase in violence should not be and cannot be made one of a political matter.”
Welch called on Minister of Education Nyan Gadsby-Dolly to consider comments made from the political parties’ youth arms to help alleviate the problem of violence in schools.
He said, “We don’t seek to blame. We must fix this very important issue before any more lives are put in danger or further damage is done.”
Welch is calling on the minister to have a roundtable discussion where solutions will be shared.
He said, “We must come together as a united body to deal with this very important matter if what we want is a resolution and policies that can bring this unacceptable situation to a conclusion that protects our children and makes our nation’s schools safe for education and development of our vulnerable youth.”
