THE Urban Development Corporation of Trinidad and Tobago Limited (UDECOTT) in not responsible for the performance of any sub-contractors.
Acting Leader of Government Business Paula Gopee-Scoon made the statement in the Senate on Friday.
She was answering a question on behalf of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley posed by Opposition Senator Wade Mark.
Gopee-Scoon made reference to the FIDIC Conditions of Contract for Plant and Design-Build (1999 edition), also known as Yellow Book.
She said, “The main contractor is responsible for managing, coordinating, and paying all his subcontractors and as such UNDECOTT does not and did not engage subcontractors on the redevelopment of the Central Block Port of Spain General Hospital Project.”
Gopee-Scoon added the information available to UDECOTT on the subcontractors was derived from the information the contractor (Shanghai Construction Caribbean Group Ltd (SCG) provided to it.
She listed the names of 16 contractors involved in the redevelopment of Central Block at the POSGH which included two Chinese companies:
- G4S Secure Solutions Trinidad Limited;
- BK Holdings Limited;
- Proline Construction limited;
- Massy Prestcon Limited;
- Bescon Consulting Limited;
- Earth Investigating Systems Limited;
- Independent Materials Testing Limited;
- Junior Sammy Contractors Limited;
- Coosals Construction Company Limited;
- Surville limited;
- Trinico Steel and Wire Products limited;
- Trinidad Tower Crane Services Limited;
- In-Electra Limited; and
- Marble Renewal of the Caribbean Limited.
