PRESIDENT Paula-Mae Weekes met with Queen Elizabeth II during Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier this week.
A release from Communications Adviser to the President Cheryl Lala on Thursday stated that President Weekes presented the Queen with “a gift from the people of Trinidad and Tobago in commemoration of her Platinum Jubilee. The gift, ‘Woman on the Bass’ was designed and produced by artist Gillian Bishop.”
Lala said that upon the invitation of the Platinum Jubilee Celebration CommitteePresident Weekes attended the Royal Windsor Horse Show’s presentation in honour of the Queen’s Jubilee at which the Trinidad and Tobago Defense Force Steel Orchestra performed.
She said at the request of the Queen, the TTDF Steel Orchestra performed at a private rehearsal at Windsor Castle.
Lala said, “The following evening President Weekes joined Queen Elizabeth II and other dignitaries to attend the final night of the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The equestrian extravaganza entitled A Gallop Through History, featured 500 horses and over a 1,000 performers and kicked off celebrations marking the Queen’s 70-year reign. The TTDF Steel Orchestra’s performance at the show was warmly received by Her Majesty the Queen.
“At the request of Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, His Excellency Vishnu Dhanpaul, President Weekes also visited the High Commission where she met with staff and various members of the diaspora including fellow Bishopian, composer Dominic Le Gendre and authors Ron Ramdin and Patrice Lawrence.”
