TWO men were arrested and a rifle and quantity of ammunition seized following a police-involved shooting incident in Ste Madeline, San Fernando, on Wednesday morning.
The two men, ages 18 and 22, of Tarodale, San Fernando, believed to be involved in the attempted theft of cables, are currently detained at the Marabella and Mon Repos Police Stations.
They are assisting detectives with investigations into the seizure of an AR-15 firearm and one magazine with several rounds of ammunition.
According to police reports, around 3 am on May 18, Emergency Response Patrol, Southern Division, police officers responded to a report of larceny of cables at Spring Hill, Ste Madeline. They spotted a burgundy Nissan Cefiro motor vehicle with two occupants leaving the scene.
Police said they came under rapid gunfire.
The responding officers, guided by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service’s Use of Force Policy, returned fire and subsequently held the men.
With assistance of supporting units from the San Fernando Criminal Investigations Department and Marabella police, the suspects were arrested and the firearm and ammunition seized.
Southern Division Police are continuing investigations.
