CHAGUANAS West MP Dinesh Rambally is calling on Minister of Works and Transport (MOWT) Rohan Sinanan to commence urgent works on the La Paille riverbank.
He said, “Please put your money where your mouth is, and get down to work. We want the riverbank fix now.”
On Wednesday, Rambally together with Local Councillor for St Augustine South, Piarco\St Helena Richard Rampersad joined villagers of La Paille in an early morning protest. They held placards and shouted: “We want the riverbank fixed now.”
Rambally said residents lived in fear every time heavy rains fall.
He said, “If we’re going into this rainy season and there isn’t any work done along the river banks, thousands of villagers will be flooded out, as their homes are going to be washed away.”
Rambally warned that they would carry the protest to the doorsteps to Sinanan.
He said for years complaints have been made about the banks along the Caroni River.
Rambally said that La Paille river bank was a priority and called for urgent works to be done now.
He warned Sinanan: “If no positive works are not done during this dry season, this is going to escalate into something you will live to regret.”
Rambally added, “And if this rainy season comes and we have problems with this riverbank, bet your bottom dollar, Chaguanas West is going to cut off South Trinidad from North Trinidad, and vice versa.
“This constituency is going to cut off all traffic flow, mark my words.”
