THE Islamic values of faith, compassion and selflessness are important in building a stronger nation.
This is the message of Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar as the Muslim community begin fasting for the holy month of Ramadan.
In a release on Saturday, Persad-Bissessar said, “Ramadan is a time in which Muslims engage in reflection, fasting, prayer and charitable giving.
“Let us seek to mirror the example of our Muslim brothers and sisters, and help our neighbours and members of our communities who may be feeling the impacts of economic hardship and loss.
“Let us take this time to reflect on the Islamic values of faith, compassion, and selflessness. These values are important as we work together to build a stronger, brighter future for our nation.”
Noting that this is two years since the Covid-19 pandemic, Persad-Bissessar said, “I urge you to do so safely and be mindful of the health protocols we continue to follow. I pray for the good health and prosperity of all citizens at this time.
“I take this opportunity to offer my best wishes to each and every Muslim throughout Trinidad and Tobago who is about to embark upon this spiritual journey over the next 30 days.”
