Blaxx has Died

SOCA star Dexter Stewart better known as “Blaxx” has died following a battle with Covid-19.

The announcement was made by his family and the management and members of the All Starz band on Monday.

In a social media post shared by more than 1,000 persons, it stated, “May his voice now be heard among the angels.”

Several persons expressed shock and condolences over the passing of the “I feel Hulk” singer including his musical colleagues.

The 61-year-old veteran in the soca music industry was being treated in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Arima Hospital.

Stewart had spent several weeks in October last year at the hospital complaining of breathing problems. Subsequent medical exams also revealed he had serious kidney issues. 

His friends and colleagues had recently asked the population to pray for him during the difficult period.

His songs included Gyal Owner, Mash Up, Who God Bless and Hulk.

The Ministry of Tourism, Culture and the Arts is offering its condolences to the family and friends Blaxx.

In a release it stated, “We are saddened to lose one of Trinidad & Tobago’s finest soca artistes and cultural icons. ‘Blaxx’ was truly a lover of his culture and his country and was proud to fly the flag of Trinidad and Tobago wherever he performed.

“His dynamic stage presence, infectious music and his dedication to the soca art form will certainly not be forgotten.”
