THE 90-degree flange on Berth 6 in the Gulf of Paria at Pointe-a-Pierre that would have been entering sea level was removed perhaps in an effort to recover the body of the divers who risked their lives for the sake of duty.

I saw this as I ventured out on a pirogue near Berth 6 in the Gulf of Paria on Tuesday around midday to view the location where the five divers would have initially disappeared.

Rishi Nagassar, Fyzal Kurban, Yusuf Henry and Kazim Ali Jr were sucked into the pipeline on Friday while doing work to repair a leak.

Christopher Boodram who was also working was the only one rescued.

We left from King’s Wharf, San Fernando along with other media professionals to travel by pirogue to the tragedy site that could be viewed from Flower Pot Bay just before Pointe-a-Pierre.

It took about seven minutes to reach.

A security officer on the berth instructed the vessel to move away from the installation and shortly afterwards a Paria Fuel Trading Company security vessel intercepted the pirogue on the way back to King’s Wharf.

I spoke with the security officers informing them of who the media personnel were and the reason for being near the berth.

Being polite, the security instructed the captain of the vessel to maintain a distance 100 metres away from any installation.

It was further explained that at the moment divers may be in and around the area still searching for the final body.

Any efforts of activity to recover the final body were not observed at the time.

The families of the deceased divers were at the Forensic Science Centre in St James awaiting to ID the bodies of their loved ones.
