THE month of December is not finished but already the total number of Covid-19 positive cases has surpassed that of November.
This was stated by epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds on Monday at the Ministry of Health’s Covid-19 update.
Dr Hinds had previously predicted that given the increasing positivity rate and trend since October, December would meet November’s figure and may surpass it.
In demonstrating information through the use of graphs, Dr Hinds said for November, there were 14,032 cases and as of December 19, the total was 14,061.
He also said there was an increase in children of the younger age group who cannot yet be vaccinated becoming Covid-19 positive.
The largest number of positive cases continued to be reported within the 25 to 49 age group or the working-class group.
“On a week-to-week basis, we are seeing increases from one county to the next,” Dr Hinds said.
Dr Hinds again appealed to the public to be vaccinated against the virus and adhere to all protocols.
There were 462 deaths due to Covid-19 in November and the death toll for the 19 days of December was 422.
