GUYANA Amazon Warriors (GAW) has taken the top spot in the 2019 Hero Caribbean Premier League (CPL) after three games.
The Warriors are on six points with a perfect record just like the Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) but has a better net run rate (NNR) of 1.263. TKR has an NNR of 0.886.
TKR got the better of the St Lucia Zouks on Saturday at the Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad to give them three wins from as many games.
Lendl Simmons earned the Player of the Match award with an explosive 63 from 39 balls that included five fours and five sixes. Denesh Ramdin was not out on exactly 50.
TKR won by seven wickets with 13 balls remaining. They had to chase the Zouks total of 167 for 5. John Campbell top scored with 43 for the St Lucia franchise.
And at Providence on Sunday, the Warriors batting first got to 180 for 4 versus the Barbados Tridents. Opener Chandrapaul Hemraj posted 63 but it was the fireworks of Nicholas Pooran who stole the show with an unbeaten 61 from 30 balls that included five sixes and three fours. Sherfane Rutherford also came good with 32 not out in 14 balls.
At their turn at the crease, the Tridents were all out for 133 with Ashley Nurse top scoring with 40.
These results means that only the GAW and TKR have points and have played the most games of the six teams in the tournament.
