Covid-19 Hospital Occupancy Back to May’s Level

MINISTER of Health Terrence Deyalsingh says hospital occupancy for Covid-19 patients is just like in May when there was another wave hitting Trinidad and Tobago.

Speaking at the Ministry of Health virtual presser on Wednesday, Deyalsingh explained the progression of the hospital occupancy since May 15.

He said, “Fifty-nine days have passed and today, we are 473 in the public healthcare system and back to where we were in May with 472.”

Deyalsingh said “We started at a peak of 472 around May 23 which started to go down.  However, between July 10 to 12, our occupancy was 40% and cases in the parallel healthcare system dropped from 472 to 318 followed by a plateau of 113 days.”

He said that the population was advised on September 29 that a data point was observed with a slight uptick.

Deyalsingh again encouraged people to get vaccinated and adhere to the public health regulations.

Meanwhile, thus far, 6,639 people have accessed the additional Covid-19 vaccine primary doses.

Persons who would benefit from this third dose of the vaccine included the elderly and those immunocompromised based on interim recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO), he said.

Deyalsingh also added that 630,781 of the population had a completed vaccine regimen whether with a two-dose or one dose regimen, which amounted to 45.1%.

While, 634, 503 persons were vaccinated with a first dose of a two-dose regimen which amounted to 45.3% of the total population
