THE Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) has extended the adverse weather alert to Yellow Level #3 to 4pm on Thursday.
In a Facebook post, at 3.49pm on Wednesday the Met Office stated, “Through cloudy but mostly settled conditions are expected to continue as the afternoon progresses, however, there is a medium to high (60%-70%) chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms of varying intensities, to develop after midnight into tomorrow.
“Activity is forecast to peak during the morning period but isolated impactful rainfall can occur during the afternoon. Gusty winds in excess of 45km/h are possible in heavier showers/thunderstorms, as additional rainfall will further exacerbate areas already inundated especially along smaller rivers.”
TTMS cautioned that smaller water courses can become overwhelmed and spill over onto surrounding environs. In addition to localised flooding and ponding can cause temporary traffic disruptions and landslips are possible in areas so prone.
It stated, “Gusty winds can lead to loose/unsecured items being displaced as well as further agitation of sea conditions.”
Members of the public should avoid driving or wading through flood waters. Persons who reside along river banks should be on the alert and take the necessary precautions to preserve life and property.
In addition, they should also secure loose outdoor objects monitor weather conditions and updates from official sources via www.metoffice.gov.tt and www.odpm.gov.tt.
