ATTORNEY General Faris Al-Rawi confirms an incident at the Government Plaza in Port-of-Spain.
He said his office has been cleared of people and the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) was on the scene.
Police said they are investigation “a possible explosive device.”
Al-Rawi made the comment at the beginning of a press conference to deal with the whole issue of the Police Commissioner.
Officers of the TTPS and the Tobago Fire Service have responded with a heavy presence in Port-of-Spain.
Initial reports indicated that a security guard found what appeared to be an explosive device in a bin.
Queen, Edward and Richmond Streets in downtown Port-of-Spain have been cordoned and blocked off from pedestrian traffic.
Police have evacuated Government buildings on Government Plaza Ministry of Legal Affairs, Ministry of Education and Ministry of National Security have been evacuated.
The Parkade has also been evacuated.
