A Tropical Depression east of the Lesser Antilles was upgraded to Tropical Storm Sam on Thursday evening.
In a 5pm update, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), meteorologist Jean-Marc Rampersad said, “At 5:00pm, this evening the centre of TS Sam was located near 11.1N 39.7W or about 2635 km east southeast of the Northern Leeward Islands.”
Officials said, “Sam is moving toward the west near 26 km/hr and this motion is expected to continue over the next few days, but with a gradual decrease in forward motion.”
At this time, the system does not pose any direct threat to the Lesser Antilles but the Leeward Islands should closely monitor the progress of this system.
“This system poses no direct threat to Trinidad, Tobago, Grenada and its Dependencies,” TTMS said.
The MET Office stated that it will continue to closely monitor these systems and will issue an update at 6am tomorrow or earlier, if the situation warrants.
