A 38-year-old contractor of Hard Bargain Village, Williamsville, is charged with one count of larceny on Saturday.
A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Sunday stated that Nigel Chadee a contractor was arrested by officers of the Fraud Squad on Saturday for the larceny of $37,000.
Reports stated that in February, 2021 a contractor received money totalling $37,000 from a homeowner as down payment towards roadworks.
Chadee and the homeowner, signed a contract which detailed the scope of works, total cost, schedule of payments, and the start and completion dates.
However, when the down payment was made, it is being alleged that Chadee refused to answer phone calls from the homeowner and no work was done on the project.
Police said after several failed attempts to contact the contractor, the homeowner made a report to the Fraud Squad in April 2021, where investigations were conducted by Cpl Cummings, which led to the suspect’s arrest on Saturday.
He is due to appear virtually at the Chaguanas Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
