The Police Complaints Authority (PCA) launches an investigation into reports of practices surrounding the dissemination of Firearm User’s Licences (FULs) by members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service.

In a release on Saturday, the PCA stated that the investigation surrounded members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

The release stated, “As an independent oversight body, the PCA is committed to ensuring that no police officer acts above the Rule of Law and empowering the Citizenry to report incidents of police misconduct and/or criminal activity.”

The investigation has been launched following media reports that the Police Service Commission under the chairmanship of Bliss Seepersad has hired former judge Stanley John to look into the gun-licence matter.

After allegations reached senior members of the Government, an investigative team was appointed that included a former chief of defence staff and ex-head of special branch.

The report was submitted to Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and it detailed a criminal enterprise regarding police officers and the Firearms Section of the TTPS.
