A VERY small percentage of people who are fully vaccinated for Covid-19 has been hospitalised.
This was revealed by Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram who spoke at the Ministry of Health virtual presser on Monday.
He said, “A very, very small percentage of people who become hospitalised are fully vaccinated.”
Dr Parasram said, “In terms of Covid-19 deaths between May 9 to present, there were 1,068 whereby three deaths were among those full vaccinated which accounted for 0.3%.”
He said the three fatalities were critically-ill whereby those persons had a number of comorbidities.
The CMO added that during the same period, the fatality percentage among persons who weren’t fully vaccinated was 99.7% of persons.
In the High Dependency Unit (HDU) from July 27, 2021 to present, the CMO said, there were 1.9% fully vaccinated patients whereas 98.1% were not fully vaccinated.
He said, “There were 19 person who received first dose, now 17.9%, while there were zero second doses at that time.”
In HDU, admissions during the period showed 85% unvaccinated, 98.1% not fully vaccinated and 1.9% fully vaccinated.
Dr Parasram said fully vaccinated patients only accounted for 0.6% of all 155 persons admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) between July 27 to present.
He said 99.4% of these patients weren’t fully vaccinated.
He also announced that the Johnson & Johnson, single dose vaccine would be available from Wednesday at all 109 health centres, private and public mass vaccination sites and drive throughs.
