THERE has been a decrease in Covid-19 positive cases across counties in Trinidad and Tobago.
This is according to epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds at the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference on Monday.
Using graphs, he said, “If we compare previous week with current week, in this case we are seeing epi weeks 31 and 32, we do see across the board that there has been a decrease in the number of cases from weeks 31 to weeks 32 in all the counties with a couple of exceptions.”
Dr Hinds also said that while there was an overall downward trend in all the counties, areas such as St Andrews/St Davis and Tobago showed a slight increase in cases with more densely populated areas having higher numbers of Covid positivity.
He also said that there has been a plateauing of Covid-19 positive cases with cases in the months of July and August being similar in average.
Of the positive cases, men and women were still almost 50/50 and more men are now dying from the virus as oppose to women. The death rate was still prevalent in older persons many of whom had comorbidities, Dr Hinds indicated.
He again mentioned that the downward trend will continue as more persons become vaccinated and the public health protocols are maintained.
