Flooding along the Eastern Main Road in Tunapuna on Thursday.

 

AS many parts of the country remain under water of Thursday, the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological (TTMS) extends its Riverine Flood Alert to Orange Level until to 6pm on Saturday (August 21).

The MET Office stated, “River levels continue to be critical particularly along the Caroni River with lower banks already at spilling level. Additionally, there have been multiple reports of smaller water courses being filled, with flooding in low lying areas. Other major rivers are contained at this time and are being closely monitored.”

Many places across Trinidad remain under water on Thursday after. Rising flood waters were reported in St Helena, Kelly Village, El Carmen, Piarco, Warrenville, Las Lomas, Penal, Debe, Siparia and in parts of Barrackpore.

The TTMA asked the public to be vigilant, monitor weather conditions before venturing out and avoid areas with flood waters.

In addition, TTMS has advised that the public should monitor updates from official sources and plan safety measures, including emergency supplies of food and water.
