DESPITE the bad weather on Wednesday, parents have been rushing to get their children vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus with the Pfizer vaccine.

At the Ato Boldon Stadium drive-thru site in Couva, the response was greater than anticipated.

Wednesday was the first day of the rollout of the Pfizer vaccine for children 12 to 18 years at 13 sites across the country. Many braved the constant downpour across the country to get their children immunized.

The site is being run by Proman energy company.

Head of Proman’s Corporate Communications  Fazad Mohammed told AZPNews.com, the interest in the Pfizer vaccine was very promising.

He said, “It was a quite a pleasant surprise to see so many parents bringing their children out. It shows an uptake in vaccines and is very promising. We are hoping with this vaccination drive, we can maybe have some sort of normal operations for the school re-opening and we are very happy to support this initiative.”

Mohammed said, the Ministry of Health allocated 570 Pfizer vaccines to that site for the day but a request was already made for more.

“We would like to vaccinate as many parents and kids as possible,” he said.

The vaccination which began at 8am ends on Wednesday at 3.30pm.

Kudos to the volunteers and staff

One parent who identified herself as Gail carried her daughter and her daughter’s friend to get their vaccines.

She said although she had a wait because many people were in front of her, the process was not overbearing.

She said, “ Kudos to the volunteers. They were there in raincoats, umbrellas and they were guiding us throughout the process. It was long but it was comfortable.”

The two children who were vaccinated told AZPNews.com the process was “good.”
