SCHOOLS are set to open in September for in-person classes whether or not children are vaccinated.

This was revealed by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley speaking during the post-Cabinet news conference at his official residence in Blenheim, Tobago on Thursday.

He said the opening will depend on both the vaccination programme and how people adhered to the restrictions in place to curb the spread of Covid-19.

Dr Rowley said, “We will open our schools even if children are not vaccinated.”

He said on Saturday that T&T may receive Pfizer Covid-19 vaccines which the World Health Organisation (WHO) has approved for the use on children 12 years and above.

On Thursday, he said, “We are sufficiently comfortable with the level of risk we are taking.”

Dr Rowley said large groups of people were now being allowed to work such as in the construction and the food and beverage sectors.

He said, “We are doing it very cautiously but substantially.’’
