AS he was on his way to collect 800,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines for Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday, Chinese Ambassador Fang Qui said he was pleased to learn of the Prime Minister’s vaccination.

On Tuesday, Prime Minister Dr  Keith Rowley  received his first dose of the Sinopharm vaccine.

Qui posted on his Facebook page, “Heartened to know on my way to the airport to receive the 800,000 doses Sinopharm vaccines! This is leadership by example and in action! China will continue standing with Trinidad and Tobago in solidarity to prevail over this pandemic.”

The Ministry of Health in a release on Tuesday stated that T&T received 800,000 doses of the World Health Organization (WHO) approved Sinopharm COVID-19 Vaccine from the Beijing Institute of Biological Products Co Limited.

The release stated, “These vaccines, which were purchased by the Government of the Republic of T&T, will be used to accelerate the implementation of the national Covid-19 vaccine deployment plan.

“Two doses of the Covid-19 Sinopharm vaccine are required for optimal protection against the virus and thus, this delivery means that 400,000 persons in T&T can be fully vaccinated in the upcoming months. This is a monumental step forward in the fight against Covid-19 and provides the platform needed to preserve both lives and livelihoods.

“While the vaccines will expire on the 8th June, 2023, plans are already underway to administer these Covid-19 vaccines to key categories of people in the population, in the shortest timeframe that allows for efficient deployment.”
