THE Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) is warning that private companies should not directly engage police officers perform escort duties.
A release from TTPS on Tuesday stated: “In the case of private escorts, there must be an official written application made in person or via email, 24 hours in advance to the Senior Superintendent in charge of the Traffic and Highway Patrol Branch or the Senior Superintendent in charge of a Division, by the company, its servant and/or agent requesting the services of police officers for such duties.”
In addition, the application must state in detail:
- The nature of the escort, the equipment to be transported, the contents of any container to be transported;
- The registration number of the vehicle to be used for transporting the stated equipment;
- The date and time at which the duty is to be performed;
- The address from which the escort shall commence to the address of the destination of the equipment; and
- The route to be travelled, and any existing hazardous concerns.
The TTPS stated that the relevant fees must be paid to any First Citizens Branch and the relevant receipt issued and forwarded to our office as proof of payment with the transaction identification and the FCB stamp in keeping with the guidelines for the collection of revenues.
