IN a night of Copa America and the usual below par football, Argentina thumped Bolivia and Uruguay had a narrow win against Paraguay.

Arena Pantanal
Argentina playing the weakest side of the group had an impressive 4-1 win. It is the first time Argentina flexed its muscle and played throughout the match. It was good to see Lionel Messi score a brace and set up another. It is a good omen to Argentina that they have scored freely.
As early as the sixth minute, Argentina took the lead from a sublime Messi pass to Gonzales, who had an easy goal. Messi had two goals, a penalty in the 42nd minute and an enigmatic chip in the 42nd minute. L Martinez had the final goal in the 65th minute. E Saavedra scored in the 60th as a consolation for the Bolivians.

In a tame affair, Uruguay pipped Paraguay by with a penalty from Edison Cavani in the 21st minute. In a relaxed game where both teams already qualified it was not an interesting encounter.
Uruguay had 18 shots at goal with six on target in comparison to Paraguay’s four shots with none on target. Paraguay were contented to defend and accepted the loss –it was not an entertaining contest by any means.
