Landslide Reported in Tunapuna Region

CLOUDY conditions with intermittent showers and a high chance of thunderstorms were expected on Friday into Saturday, according to the Trinidad and TobagoĀ Meteorological Service (TTMS).

There was a steady rainfall on Friday as predicted by the TTMS.

The Met Office stated that cloudy conditions with intermittent periods of shower and a high chance of thunderstorms were expected on Friday into Saturday as it issued an Adverse WeatherAlert, Yellow Level, effective from 12am to SaturdayĀ Ā at 12 pm.

It stated, ā€œThese conditions are expected to become somewhat settled by evening despite a few lingering overnight showers. Gusty winds and street/flash flooding can be expected in heavy downpours. In addition, the Lesser Antilles remain with partly cloudy conditions with a few light to moderate showers.ā€

The Tunapuna/Piarco Regional Corporation reported two major incidents of landslides.

The Corporation’s Chairman Kwasi Robinson told AZPNews.com on Friday eveningĀ Ā that the Corporation was presently assisting two households who suffered severe damages to their walls due to the heavy rainfall.

The Met OfficeĀ Ā posted a video of flooding in Palo Seco on social media.

Chairmen of other Corporations also made checks in their respective areas.

Chaguanas Mayor Faaiq Mohammed also told AZPNews.com that officials from the Chaguanas Borough Corporation were monitoring the water levelsĀ Ā at all the major water coursesĀ Ā that pass through the Corporation.

June 1 hasĀ Ā marked the start of the rainy season in T&T and the Hurricane Season which ends in November.

The Office of Disaster Preparedness and Management (ODPM) is encouraging all to prepare.

On its Facebook page, the ODPM stated, ā€œIf you haven’t have already, start preparing survival kits, first aid kits, batteries, flashlights and stock up on food and water for three to seven days.”
