THE blood of the almost 400 people who would have died as a result of Covid-19 rests on the hands of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley and his Government for failing to obtain vaccines early enough says Member of Parliament for Oropouche East Dr Roodal Moonilal.

He said the Government can find itself to be criminally negligent.

Dr Moonilal was speaking in Parliament on Monday during the motion to extend the State of Emergency for three months.

As of Monday (May 24), the Ministry of Health has reported 390 deaths in T&T due to Covid-19.

He said, “This government can find itself criminally negligent on two grounds. One the failure to work with the private sector to procure 351,000 vaccines and secondly when the entire Caribbean was getting huge gifts of vaccines at that time, from the Government of India, we said we not begging for vaccines.

“We could have received 200,000 to 300,000 vaccines at that time. If you put 250,000 with the 351,000 vaccines, we would have had more than half a million doses available to the people and your failure to do that was criminally negligent that has caused lives and the blood of those people who have died  will rest on your hands.”

The Opposition had said the SOE would be supported given the grave situation the country was now in but will continue to raise concerns.
