THERE are 70 active Covid-19 cases in Tobago.
This was revealed by Secretary of Health, Wellness and Family Development Tracy Davidson-Celestine at a virtual press conference on Friday.
She said 13 samples were awaiting results.
Davidson-Celestine said ten new cases were reported on Friday with five discharges.
She said Tobago was doing scenario planning and taking into account the increase in cases in Trinidad.
Davidson-Celestine noted that people were presenting themselves to hospital more ill than usual and the 15% of the positive cases required hospitalisation and 5% intensive care treatment.
She said bed capacity in Tobago was not a concern.
Davidson-Celestine said, “I just want to add again that given the daily rate of infections and the number of persons that are likely to be discharged over the next few days, our bed capacity is not now a significant cause of concern for us yet.”
Acting Medical Chief of Staff at the Scarborough General Hospital Dr Victor Wheeler said none of the current Covid-19 patients in Tobago were severely ill and none required ventilating.
He said one patient was being closely monitored.
