A MAN charged for robbery in 2020 was shot and killed by police on Sunday.
Dead is Anthony Daniel from St Barbs Road, Laventille. Police he was well known to them.
Police reported on Monday that a high-powered firearm was seized by officers of the Port-of-Spain Task Force (POSTF) after the shootout.
According to reports, around 8.25pm, officers of the POSTF, responded to a report of a man, wearing a red t-shirt and white three-quarter shorts, armed with a gun at St Barb’s Road, Laventille.
The officers, on arrival at the location, observed a man fitting the description who was later identified. He attempted to flee on foot and officers gave chase.
Daniel shot at the officers who, fearful for their lives, returned fire striking the assailant, police said.
The officers took Daniel to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
No officers were injured.
