FORMER Energy Minister Franklin Khan was remembered in Parliament as someone dedicated to his work fighting fearlessly against the Opposition.
On Tuesday, the Senate began with the suspension of all business in accordance with the Standing Orders and dedicated tributes to the former government minister.
Khan passed away early Saturday morning at his home.
Several senators spoke about their fond memories of Khan.
Minister of Trade and Industry Enterprise Development Paula Gopee-Scoon who spoke first remembered him as a mentor especially in the ministry he led with his last meeting being with the younger people in the ministry.
He was not only interested in the energy sector but in all aspects of the nation building and a man who loved his family dearly, Gopee-Scoon said.
She said his legacy will always be one of sincerity, dedication, humility and hard work. “Frankie had a genuine wish for success for country, party and people.”
Opposition Senator Wade Mark said his passing shocked everyone.
He spoke of his engagement and memories of the former minister which he described as healthy exchanges on important matters.
Mark said, “Former senator Khan was a quite and unassuming individual who firmly promoted and championed his government’s agenda even in the face of stiff opposition from the United National Congress (UNC). Franklin has honed his unique style particularly when it came to his debating skills, extremely measured but nevertheless forceful in articulating and advancing his beliefs and ideas.”
He added that he was extremely loyal and uncompromising.
“We will always value his cordial approach, his frankness of thoughts and views and his trademark smile and at times infectious sense of humour,” Mark said.
