Franklin Khan Dies

MINISTER of Energy and Energy Industries Franklin Khan died early this morning.

The long-standing member of the People’s National Movement (PNM) also held several portfolios in Government.

Khan had in past, taken leave for heart-related issues.

Khan, who is originally from Guayaguayare, was first elected as the Member of Parliament for Ortoire/Mayaro in 2002.

A petroleum geologist by profession, he served as Energy Minister since 2016. He also served as minister of rural development and local government and minister of works and transport.

Portfolios he held included:

  • Minister of Energy and Energy Industries from 19 August, 2020 to present;
  • Minister of Energy and Energy Industries from October, 31, 2016 to August 9, 2020;
  • Minister of Rural Development and Local Government from 11 September 11, 2015 to October 30, 2016; and
  • Minister of Works and Transport from October 15, 2002 to May 13, 2005.
