THE number of electoral districts in the Tobago House of Assembly (THA) is set to increase from 12 to 15 seats.
This after the Tobago House of Assembly (Amendment) Bill was passed in the Lower House on Friday.
It was passed with a division of 21 for and 18 against with no absenteeism.
The bill was taken to Parliament after the January 25 THA elections ended up with six seats for the People’s National Movement and six for the Progressive Democratic Patriots (PDP).
Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley piloted the bill and referred to a pre-action protocol letter served on the THA clerk by the PDP on Friday.
Although 12 THA representatives were elected, the tie meant that no presiding officer could be elected so that the assembly could function.
