FRONTLINE healthcare workers will be the first to receive the Covid-19 vaccine in Trinidad and Tobago on Wednesday.
This comes after the World Health Organization (WHO) on Monday approved two version of the Oxford AstraZeneca vaccine for emergency use.
Last week Trinidad and Tobago received 2,000 AstraZeneca vaccines from Barbados as a donation and they were being stored at the required temperatures at the e C40 Central Stores in Chaguaramas, Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram told a virtual presser of the Ministry of Health on Monday.
Dr Parasram said, “That is being housed there for now until WHO has given approval for use and then, of course, we can use it thereafter.”
He noted that these vaccines will be given to healthcare workers in the frontline in the fight against the pandemic.
The CMO said, “If we have these 2,000 they would be used for the very high-risk healthcare workers in the first instance.”
The rollout on Wednesday will be supervised by the North Central Regional Health Authority (NCRHA).
A release by the Ministry of Health invited the media to a Vaccine Deployment Update Event at 2 pm on Wednesday at the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility.
In January, Health Minister noted that T&T would have received about 120,000 AstraZeneca vaccines from the COVAX facility in March.
