“We have a lot of sick people in our society.”
That is the statement made by Minister of National Security Stuart Young as he commented on the kidnapping of Andrea Bharatt, 23 at a press conference on Tuesday.
Young cautioned members of the public to be extremely careful when conducting their affairs.
He said, “I find it very disheartening and upsetting to see our young women be subjected to this type of criminal activity and behaviour and I wish there was some easy fix and some easy way to protect all of our young women in our society and I am really hoping for a positive outcome in this case.”
The National Security Minister said he was in continuous contact with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) and has asked the Trinidad and Tobago Defence Force to assist in the search.
Young was asked about the policy concerning pepper spray for women following the death of 18-year-old Ashanti Riley last year and he responded by saying it was not an easy decision for government to just give approval on paper.
He said he requested a report and comparison as to what occurs in other jurisdictions which was received and will be discussed in National Security Council.
And Crime Stoppers is offering a $50,000 reward for information that can help find Bharatt.
