FORMER MP for La Brea Fitzgerald Jeffery has passed away. He was 69.
He had a long battle with a lung disease and in January had opened a GoFundMe account to try and raise $1million for a lung transplant.
Jeffrey was diagnosed with pulmonary fibrosis.
He was a Minister of State in the Ministry of Science, Technology and Tertiary Education and served as MP for La Brea from 2007 to 2015.
He was then appointed as Trinidad and Tobago’s High Commissioner to Jamaica.
In a release on Saturday, the People’s National Movement stated, “Jamaica held a special place in heart. Unbeknownst to many, Mr Jeffrey was the UWI Mona Campus Calypso King.
“He was lovingly remembered by his friend and colleague of several decades, Minister of Energy and Energy Industries Senator the Hon. Franklin Khan.”
Khan said, “He was my personal friend for 40 years. We entered Mona Campus in 1977. He was the campus calypso king and I was his backup singer. He moved the toast to the groom at my wedding.”
Jeffrey was also principal of the Palo Seco Secondary School. He leaves to mourn his wife Julia and daughter.
