92 Charges for Cunupia Woman

A 48-YEAR-OLD woman who allegedly stole more than one million dollars from her employer has been charged.

Nirmala Tambie, of Cunupia, was charged with 91 counts of larceny and one count of embezzlement, by officers of the Southern Division Criminal Investigations Department (CID).

Investigations were conducted by CID officers over a two-month period, under the supervision of Snr Supt Smith and Insp. Phillip, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated in a media release on Friday.

A victim reported to police that during the period January 1, 2022, and September 6, 2022, a total of $1,615,777.16, went missing from his company. 

He said he made checks of his CCTV system and observed a woman employed as a cashier at his business place allegedly stealing a sum of money during the period. Enquiries were conducted by acting Cpl Parveen Rajkumar and PC Vishnu Jogie, which led investigators to proceed to the suspect’s home last week Thursday.

There, they conducted a search, which resulted in a large sum of Trinidad and Tobago currency, a stamp and US currency being found and seized.

The woman was arrested in connection with the find and the matter and subsequently charged. The search exercise was coordinated by Snr Supt Smith, Insp Phillip and supervised by Sgt Wilkinson and acting Cpl Rajkumar, all of the Southern Division.
