9 Charged for DUI

POLICE hold nine people for driving under the influence in exercises during Saturday night and Sunday morning.

A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that five were charged in the Eastern Division and four in Port-of-Spain.

It stated that in a road traffic exercise conducted in Sangre Grande between 10 pm on Saturday and 2am on Sunday, 67 field sobriety tests were conducted where three persons were allegedly found to be driving while intoxicated.

Two others refused to provide breath samples for testing while of them one was also found to be driving without a permit.

And about the same time Port-of-Spain City Police arrested and charged three persons for the same offences.

In an exercise paying particular attention to Ariapita Avenue, three persons were arrested and charged for driving under the influence with readings ranging from 47 micrograms to 59 micrograms, the release noted.

The fourth person, a 35-year-old man from Aranguez, was arrested after he was spotted by Port-of-Spain Central Market Police driving in a reckless manner.

The driver was taken to the Aranguez Traffic Branch where he refused to give a sample for a breathalyzer test.

He was then taken to the Port-of-Spain Central Market Police Post where he was formally charged for the offence of failing to provide a specimen of breath for testing.
