A TOTAL of 8,759 persons were vaccinated at the two mass vaccination sites which were set up last week to facilitate Covid-19 jabs.
On Monday, Manager of the Expanded Immunization Programme in the Ministry of Health Grace Sookchand reported that the vaccination drive done at the the Paddock, Queen’s Park Savannah and the National Racquet Centre in Tacarigua was successful.
She was speaking during the Ministry of Health’s virtual media conference.
Sookchand said, “The success of the rollout show that we had a total of 38,638 persons vaccinated to date. The target, high-risk exposure healthcare workers, persons 60 plus and those over 60 with comorbidities.”
She added, “The mere success of the vaccinations sites contributed significantly to the vaccinated total figures. We continue to surpass projected daily uptake which demonstrates the public confidence in the immunization programme.”
The Ministry of Health along with the North West Regional Health Authority, Eastern Health Authority, Trinidad Medical Services Association and the T&T Registered Nurses Association, operationalised the two mass vaccination sites and Sookchand said that more will be set up.
She also praised the Regional Health Authorities and all health care workers for their hard work and dedication and said the high vaccination rate showed that citizens understood the importance of getting a vaccine.
Sookchand encouraged the population to continue to get not just their Covid-19 vaccine but all other vaccines that may be required as the region celebrates “ Vaccination Week of the Americas” this week.
