$82,000 for 31 Flood Victims

MORE than $82,000 is being given in disaster relief grants to 31 persons affected by last month’s severe weather and flooding.

A media release from the Ministry of the People, Development and Family Services stated that a distribution ceremony was held on Saturday at the Cunupia Government Primary School, Chin Chin Road, Cunupia.

A total of $82,700 in disaster relief grants was distributed to eight families, comprising 31 people, who were affected by adverse weather in the region.

The grants were delivered under the Ministry’s National Social Development Programme (NSDP) aimed at creating a more resilient, inclusive and people centred society.

Delivering the feature address at the ceremony, Minister of the People, Development and Family Services Vandana Mohit said, “These grants are more than just financial support, they affirm that, as a nation, we do not abandon our citizens in their time of greatest need.”

She emphasized, “This is not a handout but a hand up. Your resilience is inspiring, and your government is committed to walking this journey of recovery with you.”
