8 of the 23 Covid-19 Deaths Had No Comorbidities

EIGHT of the 23 people who died of Covid-19 in Trinidad and Tobago on Tuesday did not have comorbidities, the Ministry of Health is reporting.

There were 12 women and 11 men who passed way.

Eight of the men as well as seven of the women who died had comorbidities.

Comorbidity is defined as the simultaneous presence of two or more diseases or medical conditions in a patient.

The deaths mean that 148 people have succumbed to Covid-19 in the first 18 days of May. This is more than all of 2020 which recorded 127 deaths.

The ministry reported 601 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday taken from samples during the period May 13 to May 16.

The deaths:

  • 7 elderly male with comorbidities;
  • 5 elderly females with comorbidities;
  • 1 middle-aged man with comorbidities;
  • 2 middle-aged females with comorbidities
  • 1 elderly male without comorbidities;
  • 2 elderly females without comorbidities;
  • 2 middle-aged males without comorbidities; and
  • 3 middle-aged female without comorbidities.

The death toll in the country is now 317.

The 23 deaths were the most reported for any given day due to Covid-19 since the pandemic began last year.

At the last virtual presser of the Ministry of Health on Monday, Chief Medical Officer Dr Roshan Parasram said that there were only 40 confirmed cases of the Brazilian variant (P1) with no deaths being recorded because of the P1.

 

 

The release on Tuesday stated that 29 people were discharged from public facilities while there were 116 recovered community cases.

The ministry reported 387 Covid-19 patients in hospital.

It stated that there were 17 patients in the intensive care unit and 42 in the high dependency unit at the Couva Hospital and Multi-Training Facility

Positive Covid-19 patients in hospital:

Couva – 144;

Caura Hospital – 89;

Augustus Long Hospital – 48;

St Ann’s Hospital – 21;

Arima General Hospital – 50;

Scarborough Regional Hospital (Fort King George) –34; and

Scarborough General Hospital (Signal Hill) – 1.

The Tobago House of Assembly reported 25 new Covid-19 cases on Tuesday.
