There were now 49 people who have been detected with the Delta variant in T&T.

Dr Hinds said that five of these new cases had no travel history.

He said six had contact with symptomatic cases before being diagnosed.

Dr Hinds said, “Of those seven cases, there were three that were fully vaccinated, one that only had one dose of the vaccine regimen and there were three that were unvaccinated.”

He said this pattern may show that there were undetected chains of community transmission of the Delta variant.

Dr Hinds also confirmed that two of the Covid-19 deaths were patients who were confirmed to have the Delta variant.

He refused to say whether these people were fully vaccinated or not.
