AS of Saturday, there are 16,000 second doses of the AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine still to be administered.
There were also 636,000 additional doses of the Sinopharm vaccine to be given out.
This information was revealed by epidemiologist Dr Avery Hinds during the Ministry of Health’s virtual press conference on Tuesday.
He also said that by Tuesday, the information would be slightly different as the vaccine roll-out continues.
Dr Hinds said, “Rest assured, we are seeing good updates with the doses that we have available at this point in time.”
With reference to the long weekend, where less persons showed up to be vaccinated, Dr Hinds said perhaps some persons were unaware that vaccinations were still take place during the period.
He added, “ There is a relationship between the timing of the first doses and the timing of the second. The appointment scheduled for the second vaccine is actually determined by when people got their first dose. Sometimes there may be a lull depending on wherever there was a big drive before and then smaller intake in the batch thereafter. Those things sort of influence flow to the sites.”
Dr Hinds also advised against going earlier than the appointed date to receive a second dose of the Sinopharm vaccine as it may influence the efficacy.
And he again appealed to the public to get vaccinated with both doses as a person is not considered to be fully vaccinated against the Covid-19 virus until two weeks have passed after the second dose.
