6 Years’ Jail for Robbing Man of his Car

Ronald Joseph and Joshua Francis were each sentenced to six years’ hard labour when they appeared before Magistrate Raphael in the Sangre Grande Magistrates’ Court, on Thursday on charges of robbery with violence.

According to police reports , around 2.20 pm on July 28, 2024, the victim, a 52-year-old man of Sangre Grande was driving his motor vehicle, a gold-coloured Nissan Almera along the Cunapo Southern Main Road, Sangre Grande.

He stopped to give three young men a ride to Sangre Grande all of whom were walking out of Kowlessar Road.

Whilst proceeding to Sangre Grande with the occupants, one of the passengers put a knife to his neck and a struggle ensued causing the victim to receive injuries to his fingers.

The victim then brought the vehicle to a stop and the front seat passenger hurled him out of the driver seat and onto the front passenger seat. The victim was able to escape and the suspects drove off with the vehicle.

The incident was reported on that same day and officers of the Sangre Grande Criminal Investigations Department and Eastern Division Task Force launched an investigation.

Further enquiries were conducted and two suspects were identified via CCTV footage.

Both suspects were arrested in separate exercises on July 31, 2024. On August 29, 2024, the vehicle was recovered at Sangre Chiquito.
