The Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services, through the National Social Development Programme (NSDP), on Saturday distributed Home Repair and Disaster Relief Grant assistance to 38 households, representing 117 beneficiaries, at a total cost of $555,031, the ministry said in a media release.
Fourteen households received Home Repair Grants valued at $350,663 to assist with the restoration and rehabilitation of their homes.
A further 24 households received Disaster General Assistance Grants valued at $204,368 to help families recover from the immediate impacts of disaster-related damage and to assist with the restoration and rehabilitation of their homes.
At a ceremony to distribute the grants, Social Development Minister Vandana Mohit commended the work of the ministry’s staff in addressing clients’ needs and disbursing the aid.
She said: “Behind these numbers are real stories — families who faced uncertainty, parents who worried about the safety of their children, and individuals who wondered how they would rebuild what had been lost. Today’s support represents not just financial assistance, but reassurance that your government stands with you during these challenging moments.”
Mohit stated that for fiscal year 2026, $4 million has been allocated to sustain and expand the interventions so that even more families can receive the support necessary to repair and rebuild their homes.
Between May and September 2025, 403 household members benefited from 122 Home Repair Grants at a total cost of $1,817,007.05.
Between October 2025 and February 28, 2026, 801 household members are expected to benefit from 250 Home Repair Grants at a total cost of $3,602,938, which have been approved and are currently in the process of being distributed, the ministry revealed.
