PRIME Minister Stuart Young has called for responsible environmental management as he addressed members of the Council of Orisha Elders of Trinidad and Tobago during a special ceremony in commemoration of International Earth Day.
The event took place at the bandstand on Harris Promenade on Tuesday, where Young spoke about the importance of honouring and protecting “Mother Earth.”

He said, “Thank you for the opportunity to participate in this very special and auspicious occasion this morning, because we all have but one Mother Earth. There is only one, and it is our duty, each and every one of us, to do what we can in our own way to protect her, to make sure she not only survives, but thrives.”
Young pledged his continued support for environmental initiatives and emphasised his commitment to unity under his leadership.
He said, “Under my leadership and under the next chapter, I look forward to engaging with all of you, and bringing all that our beautiful Trinidad and Tobago has to offer to the population.”
“If there’s one thing we will not tolerate, and I certainly will not tolerate, it is divisiveness. We must be unified,” he said.
Reflecting on his role as Minister of Energy, Young noted the importance of balancing development with sustainability.
“One of the things I have worked hard to ensure is the wise use of Mother Earth’s resources for our people, making sure we put back, and that we do it in a responsible manner,” he said.
As he acknowledged the spiritual and cultural significance of the occasion, Young expressed gratitude for the support of the Orisha community and promised ongoing collaboration.
He said, “Know that you have my full support. I stand here as a proud Trinbagonian, thankful for the guidance to be here with you today.”
He added, “We must let our young people know and be exposed as well, so they will understand that all of us have a role to play and all of us to make that world white and black, as glorious and magnificent as it is.”
Young closed by reaffirming his commitment to working alongside the Council of Orisha Elders and championing the cause of environmental preservation.
“Let us go onwards to victory for Mother Earth. Thank you,” he said.
