Police arrested a 21-year-old man on Monday, hours after allegedly robbing a taxi driver at gunpoint in the Maraval district.

A male victim reported that he was providing a taxi service for a passenger around 2.30 pm in Laventille. He said the passenger requested a ride to Maraval. Along the way he was asked to pick up a second passenger in Paramin, according to a media release by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS).

Upon picking up the second passenger, who carried a blue duffel bag, the driver told them that he would not be going any further. The second man pulled out an AR-15 rifle from the bag and ordered the driver out the vehicle. The victim was then struck on his head and tied up when he attempted to grab the firearm from his attacker.

He managed to flee the scene, heard two gun shots, and made his way to the Maraval Police Station to make a report on the incident.
