FIVE suspects were arrested in exercises by police officers on Friday night and Saturday morning.
Five suspects were arrested, a firearm, an assortment of ammunition and a quantity of marijuana seized yesterday during several exercises in East, West and Central areas of the Northern Division.
During the exercises, police officers seized 20 rounds of 7.62 ammunition at Simon Road, Carapo.
According to police reports, police officers were on direct patrol when they responded to a report of loud explosions at Simon Road, Carapo. Upon arrival at the location, the officers observed a group of people gathered on the roadway.
Upon seeing the officers, the men fled, however, police seized a black plastic bag containing a brown box with 20 rounds of 7.62 ammunition which was hidden in a fig patch.
In another incident, police arrested five people, four for gang-related offences. The other was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
According to police reports, police officers proceeded to a bushy area off Basanta Trace, St John’s Road, St Augustine, where they found a revolver along with five rounds of .38 ammunition.
The items were seized and are being processed by crime scene investigators.
Meanwhile, in central part of the division, a 25-year-old man was arrested for possession of 105 grammes of marijuana.
During all three exercises, which included the Northern Division Task Force and Intelligence Unit officers, five people were also issued fixed penalty notices for breaching the Public Health Regulations. Investigations are continuing.
